Parabolic dishes
1 - Whisper at the focus of a parabola and ask a friend to listen at the other focus.
2 - If there are obstacles between the two parabolas, do you hear better or worse? Why?
The human voice is sound, which is a mechanical wave created by the vibration of the vocal cords and propagating through the air.
Parabolic mirrors reflect the waves and focus them at a point called the focus. So, when you speak at the focus of a parabola, the sound wave reflects off its surface and propagates toward the second parabola, which focuses it at its focus.
