Aquaponics
Aquaponics is the name given to the combination of fish farming and hydroponics.
In other words, it’s the cultivation of plants and fish in the same system.
The principle is simple! Fish are fed and produce waste. Mixed with water, this waste is pumped to the plants, which use it as nutrients to grow. The clean water is then returned to the aquarium. This system feeds the plants and keeps a healthy environment for the fish.
Aquaponics is widely used for genetic and vertebrate development studies, as well as in aquaculture.
