Continental Drift
1 - Look at the two Globes.
2 - On one of the Globes, notice how Africa and South America fit together perfectly!
At the bottom of the ocean, there are currently no rocks older than 180 million years, but the Earth is about 25 times older!
The continents were once joined, around 225 million years ago, in a supercontinent called Pangaea, surrounded by a single ocean called Panthalassa. This supercontinent split into two continents: one to the north, called Laurasia, and one to the south, called Gondwana.
Over time, the positions of continents and oceans have changed and will continue to change due to the movements of tectonic plates.
