Photographic Exhibition “Dive Into Nature – Birds of Lagoa dos Salgados”
On display from November 4 to January 5.
“Dive into Nature” is the first photographic exhibition by José Carvalho. The purpose of the exhibition is to spread admiration for the different species that exist in Lagoa dos Salgados – an important habitat that must be preserved. And although it is such an important place, it is not a protected area.
All the species in this exhibition are found in Lagoa dos Salgados, where more than 250 bird species have been recorded.
“Lagoa dos Salgados is currently separated from the sea by a sandy barrier, a beach-dune system, which opens to the ocean when the dune is artificially breached after the water level rises, especially in winter.
It is one of the last refuges on the southern coast of the Algarve for some species of fauna and flora, untouched by urbanization, and holds natural values that are rare on an international scale.
An uninhabited area with ecological, geological, and physiographic characteristics of high scientific and educational value that justify its classification as a nature reserve...”

About the Photographer – José Carvalho:
“I was born in Évora and lived there for most of my life. I studied Biology at the University of Évora and, for as long as I can remember, I’ve been a great lover of nature. At the age of 17, I bought my first camera, and my passion for wildlife photography has only continued to grow. I hope you enjoy seeing these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!”
