Module 22
Underwater Movements
1 – Use the wheel to rotate the sphere.
2 – Suddenly stop the rotation. What has formed?
3 – Try rotating the sphere at different speeds or in opposite directions.
Currents have formed on the sphere that carried the sand!
As the rotation of the sphere slows down, the suspended sediment settles on the bottom of the sphere, and sometimes underwater dunes form.
These currents of suspended and transported sediment are similar to those occurring in the oceans, which is why the seabed is not flat.
